History

Holding Beemsterboer (HB) is still a family owned business and was almost 80 years ago founded in 1943 by Mr.J.P. Beemsterboer, who started out trading in seed potatoes at a very young age. The company expanded after the war to incorporate various other agricultural products. There was an increase in the need for conditioned storage of agricultural products in the '60s. 
The current Dutch BCS B.V. (Beemsterboer Coldstore Services) was established in 1963 and situated in Harderwijk and Amsterdam with in total a 33.500 pallet conditioned storage capacity.

BCS Kenya Ltd Coldstore & Logistics

BCSK LTD Coldstore & Logistics is a, from origin Dutch, 3-PL service provider for conditioned storage and logistics. The Company was established in 2018 and is situated in Nairobi with a 5 rooms, 3,000 pallet capacity, and storage possibilities between +4°C to -25°C.
 
Some details about the origin of BCSK LTD:

• Holding Beemsterboer (HB) decided in 2017 to actively look for opportunities to expand the company. Possibilities for expansion in The Netherlands and Western Europe in general were limited, due to the mature market. HB has therefore developed the strategy to expand into emerging markets.
• Due to the need of a reliable party who has experience in- and able to manage closed cold chains within the Kenyan market, the idea of developing a company in third-party logistics for cold chains was developed into a concrete investment in Kenya, Nairobi.
• BCS has established BCS Kenya B.V. in The Netherlands in December 2017 and BCS Kenya LTD in Kenya in February 2018.
• BCSK LTD is financed by its Shareholders, has received a loan from the Dutch Government (former DGGF, nowadays InvestInternational) and from a Kenyan Bank.

Current situation

BCSK is up & running since end of November 2021. Conditioned storage has traditionally been the core business within our organization. We are experienced in managing the cold chain, conditioned goods storage, handling and transport for many decades. In Kenya, from the beginning, BCSK will be an independent and dynamic company. Occupying a special position, working in accordance with Dutch and European standards, in the Kenyan and international market for conditioned storage and logistics.
 
Our cold store is tailor made as a 5-rooms freeze & chilled cold store, including four loading docks and a large handling space. It is 100% climate controlled, so we keep the cold chain closed, and suitable for a wide variety of products:

• Food products as dairy, fresh or frozen French fries, fruit, juices & concentrates, meals, meat, fish, bread, and so on;
• Non-food products as flowers, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, blood, et cetera.
